Club Room Groove with D'Naysa

Causing a sonic stir in the New York live music scene.

Hometown singing sensation D’Nasya has been causing a sonic stir of late at the Club Room, with shows that blend pop, soul, R&B and more. We caught-up with her recently to find-out the story behind her music.

Tell us about your background.

I’m from Brooklyn, NY. I started singing around the age of 4 or 5. It was long before I understood technique, but I already knew how powerful singing felt.

How were you first exposed to music?

Music was always playing at home, from gospel and Motown to musical theatre soundtracks. I loved how so much emotion could be conveyed through song – heartbreak, joy and everything in between. This eventually led me to study voice in high school, college, and I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to do so.

Tell us about your first professional gig.

If this counts, my first “professional” gig was performing on the White House lawn with my elementary school choir in the summer of the millennium. It was surreal to be that young, standing on historic ground, realizing how music could bring people together.

What was your first professional tour?

It was the Broadway musical Sister Act for nine months across several countries in Asia. It was my first time being that far away from Brooklyn, NY, and it wouldn’t be my last. That experience stretched me as a performer and as a person.

What’s the most memorable concert you’ve performed?

My first headlining show at Club Groove last year during the holiday season. It was my first solo appearance since losing my parents and my grandfather, who was a jazz saxophone player. So it carried a lot of emotional weight. The room was filled with friends, colleagues, and so much love. It was beautiful to feel that support and to honor my family through music.

Top concert you’ve experienced as an audience member?

Seeing Beyoncé live. The artistry, precision, and emotional truth she brings to every moment reminded me what’s possible when you treat performing as a calling, not just a career.

What are your three desert island discs?

Renaissance by Beyoncé, Thriller by Michael Jackson and The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack by Whitney Houston.

Do you have a favorite song to play live?

It varies, but these days, it’s “Rock with You” by Michael Jackson. It’s smooth, timeless & always gets people moving.

What’s your favorite thing about performing at the Club Room?

The energy. The space feels intimate yet electric — you can actually feel the audience breathing with you. It’s a room that invites honesty, joy, and experimentation.

What can people expect to hear during your next show at the Club Room?

A blend of soulful nostalgic hits, reimagined pop, rock & R&B favorites, and deep cuts that honor the artists who shaped me. Expect heart, storytelling, and a good time.
